Inspired Inspirational Posters

The proper term is actually motivational posters.

Offically they are a nice picture with some sort of insipid guff underneath which is supposed to get you going onwards and upwards.

These are usually hung up by managers who lack the ability to inspire and believe the poster will not only communicate their wishes to the staff but also get the staff... motivated.

It’s cloud cuckoo land thinking and I loathe ‘em.

I spent far too long at one job with three, unspiritual propaganda boards, hanging in front of me. They did little to inspire.

Imagine reading a joke every time you looked up, would it be funny after a month, a week, a day an hour?

I figure the answer is… strangely enough… yes.

These Star Trek inspirational posters are brilliant and this one is a prime example of humour married with observation and could quite happily hang on my office wall, if I had one.

In case you can’t read the text it says:

EXPENDABILITY

Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and Ensign Ricky are beaming down to the planet. Guess who's not coming back.

Big Goes Green

Being environmentally friendly is easy in your head; putting it into practice needs commitment and with that the individual can achieve a certain amount of success by just recycling paper, bottles and cans.

But how can big things like football stadiums be green when they are so, well, big?

Apparently they need about 20,000 litres of water a day to keep the pitch in tip top condition. That amount of water makes a big demand on the system and if you want to be friendly to the environment then a new approach has to be found..

And a great example of ‘new’ thinking is the stadium recently built by Urban Edge Studio for Dartford Football Club in Kent.

The designers have designed a system which collects water from almost every flat surface that the stadium has and then stores it in two purpose built lakes near by.

This means they should never have to take water form the mains and could survive a drought for two months before they’d have to turn on a tap.

It’s an exciting development and you can discover what else they have achieved by visiting:

AxisofLogic/ Media Critiques

It's very tempting to say that the 2008 US elections are "not my fight" but America holds sway over so much of our world's politics and economy we should all be aware of what is going on.

Here's an interesting article by Jeff Cohen which highlights the plight of independent media in America and also 'alerts' us to the interesting progression of: "Bush I to Clinton I to Bush II to Clinton II".
